Small Fire On Top of Building Under Construction in Crystal City

Units were dispatched for a fire on a balcony on a building under construction across from 1600 South Eads St. Units arrived at 1600 Eads, and met with the RP to locate the fire. Once the correct building was determined, units to positions trying to find the best access to the location of the fire. Truck 104 noticed smoke on the 15th Street South side of the building, and took a postion infront of Rescue 109. The aerial was able to reach the floor below the fire floor. When Truck 104's crew ascended the ladder, Engine 105 reported a small explosion and an injured crew member. The truck crew went up to the fire floor, and knocked down most of the fire, while Engine 105's injured member went to get treated. Engine 101 arrived shortly after with a hose line to finish dousing the flames. They had to overcome some water supply issues due to holes in the standpipe system. Rescue 104 was called to the scene to backfill the RIT when Rescue 109 deployed to assist the injured firefighter. Thankfully, Engine 105's member's injuries were not severe, and he should return to work soon.
